Issue 1 vs Llantwit Major
JD Cymru South 2019/20
david thomas & joe evans leave the #camarmy
The CamArmy can announce that we are to lose 2 key players of the 1st team squad. Centre midfielder and current club captain David Thomas along with centre back stalwart Joe Evans have both decided to join up with JD Cymru Premier side Cardiff Met for the 2019/20 season.
In a move that will see both boys continue their education at the University, it really doesn't come as a surprise to people within the club, as both players consistently performed to the highest standard last season, especially versus top tier opposition in our run to the Nathaniel MG Cup final, where we lost to the Archers 2-0 in the final.
Dane Williams, Manager of the #CamArmy added "I am so proud to see these lads move on. I am proud to have been a small part of their development in what has been a decade spent at the club for them both. To attain 200 appearances between them at such a young age, plus all the trophies and international accolades they have won while at the club, it really speaks volumes for the type of commitment they have given me, the managers before me and the club in general. I wish them all the very best with the academic and sporting futures."
Mark Morgans, Director of Football echoed Dane's words "Dai and Joe have been superb for the club over many years. I remember both players being part of the Academy system as young ambitious teenagers when I joined 8 seasons ago, I remember both playing huge parts in our successful youth team when we won the treble and reached the FAW Youth Cup Final for the 1st time in our history, I remember both being thrown in the deep end at 16/17 years of age into Welsh League Football and of course who can forget the part they played in the monumental effort last season finishing runners up and going on the magnificent run in both domestic cups. The Academy not only develops players, but it helps develop people.....these 2 are the epitome of what this club is about, we gave them opportunities and they took them with both hands. I think people forget how young these men actually are, they are in the early 20s but they have achieved so much for themselves already in football and they have worn the badge with honour. They are role models for our younger players striving to break into the senior set up.
A big part of their decision is of course the chance to take the next steps in their education pathway. Achieving their academic goals has to come first as a career in football is only short lived, these decisions will ultimately shape their careers in years to come. However, they can also challenge themselves and experience a higher standard of football which is of course a bonus for both boys. I am sure they trust in their ability, as do we, to stake a claim and hold down regular spots in a strong Met team, but as always with any of our Cambrian family, the door is always open if they ever want to return to the Rhondda Valley. Our loss is the Met's gain, they are adding 2 great players to their squad, and more importantly even better men who will serve them with distinction! Joe has been part of our Academy coaching team for a number of seasons and personally its been a privilege to see him develop within this side of the game too, he will go on to become a brilliant coach in the future."
It is not all doom and gloom at the M&P 3G however, we hope to announce a new signing in the next few days and they'll hopefully be eligible for the Nathaniel MG Cup round 2 game vs Aberystwyth Town on Saturday at 2.30pm. Keep your eyes peeled on our social media pages.
